THIS MONTH'S LETTERS: KOSOVO
At our March GVCP meeting we discussed Kosovo at length. Not only couldn't we
reach consensus about the NATO bombing, most of us couldn't articulate an ideal
plan that would meet the goals of GVCP, even if we could convince our government
to listen to us. We did reach consensus about one action that we know is a positive
one--humanitarian relief aid to the refugees. American Friends Service Committee,
1501 Cherry St, Philadelphia PA 19102 will accept checks that will be used to
help alleviate the suffering of the refugees.
[Amnesty International USA, PO Box 96756, Washington DC 20077 is asking for
financial donations to support a team of researchers in Macedonia, Albania,
and Montenegro. These researchers are interviewing Kosovar Albanians as they
flee across the borders. The reports generated from these interviews will comprise
evidence that can be brought before the International Criminal Tribunal in the
Hague. This evidence can be used to support possible indictments of individuals
charged with war crimes. It is imperative that those responsible for this massive
assault on the human rights of innocent civilians are held accountable for their
actions. Although this request for funds wasn't available at the GVCP meeting,
I think everyone present would support it.]
WRITE to President Slobodan Milosevic, c/o Yugoslavian Permanent Mission to the UN, 854 5th Ave., New York, NY 10021 or, <slobodan.milosevic@gov.yu>. Demand that he stop attacking the Albanian citizens of Kosovo immediately.
