"THIS MONTH’S LETTER: Support the Cease-Fire in the Middle East.  Friends Committee on National Legislation has posted an excellent, user-friendly page about the war in Lebanon. <www.fcnl.org>.  You can use the website to send a letter to the editor, with copies to your Senators and Representative.  Here’s the text of the entire letter.  (The website allows you to pick and choose paragraphs.)

The tenuous cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon is an important first step in resolving this latest cycle of violent attacks and reprisals.  But there will be no end to the violence until the underlying issues behind the conflict are addressed by all the parties to the conflict.

Our Senators and Representative need to support the U.N. peacekeeping effort in Lebanon and call for a halt to all weapons shipments to the region, including weapons shipped from the United States to Israel.

The United States cannot sit out this conflict.  The people of the U.S., Israel, and all peoples searching for security in the Middle East will be best served if Congress and the President choose the role of honest peace broker through strong, sustained, and peaceful diplomatic initiatives.

If you want to write or call Sens. Clinton and Schumer, here’s that information:
