Wednesday, March 26th Day of Peace on SUNY Geneseo Campus. Students from Students for a Peaceful Solution in Iraq and Progressive Students Coalition plan a full day of peace activities to commemorate the start of the sixth year of the occupation of Iraq, and also (sadly) the 4,000th reported U.S. military death in Iraq. (Of course, no one can be sure when that terrible event will occur, but the numbers of U.S. dead are moving inexorably closer to 4,000.) Let’s support the students in this important effort!
THIS MONTH’S LETTER: CUT THE BLOATED PENTAGON BUDGET!!
It’s horrible to realize that 43 cents of every income tax dollar we pay is used for military spending. At a time when schools are deteriorating, roads and bridges are crumbling, and Hurricane Katrina victims are being poisoned by FEMA housing, our government chooses to spend more and more on the military. For the first time in history, in 2009 the U.S. military budget proposed by the President will surpass one trillion dollars. (That’s $1,000,000,000,000!) The military budget has increased by at least 70 percent since President Bush took office. [Data from Friends Committee on National Legislation]
Write to your Representative, telling her/him to vote to cut Pentagon spending and fund human needs! Our country doesn’t need even more money spent on the military.
