THIS MONTH’S LETTER: Oppose Development of a New Nuclear Weapons and Resumption of Nuclear Testing. Some officials of the Bush administration are advocating the development of a new "usable" nuclear weapon or "mini-nuke." However, administration officials are divided about this proposal. They are also divided about preparing the Nevada test site for resumption of nuclear weapons testing. Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts—a leading advocate of nonproliferation—has written a letter to President Bush expressing concern about, and opposition to, these proposals. Please write to your Representative, urging her or him to sign the Markey letter to President Bush. More information about this issue may be obtained from the Friends Committee on National Legislation at <www.fcnl.org>. The mailing address of your Representative is Washington, DC 20515. However, mail is still not always delivered to members of Congress. One alternative is to use email or fax. FCNL can help you send an email letter to your Rep. Another option is http://www.house.gov/writerep/ which allows you to send an email to your Representative. (All that is required is to enter your zip code.) Each Representative has his/her own fax number. To obtain this number, call the Representative’s office.

Renew your GVCP membership: Paying $20.00 dollars each year helps support this newsletter, GVCP donations to national groups, and our ads in local periodicals. We have had close to 100% renewal for three years. Let’s do it again in 2002! [We do not expect dues from international groups, or from any groups with which we exchange newsletters.]

Peace,
