“Human Race Not Arms Race”

June 18, 2004

Dear GVCP Member:

NEXT GVCP MEETING: SUNDAY, JULY 4th, 1:00 to 3:00 PM, 5848 OLD ORCHARD POINT, LIVONIA. [Although the address is "Old Orchard Point," this house is actually on East Lake Rd. at the corner of the southern entrance of Old Orchard Point. The house is approximately 3 miles south of Route 20A and is on the west (lake) side of East Lake Road. Call 585-346-2530 for directions.]

July 4th Patriots for Change Party, 3:00 to 5:00 PM, 5848 OLD ORCHARD POINT, LIVONIA. (Same location as GVCP meeting. Party will start right after the GVCP meeting.) July 4th is just around the corner. What better way to show your patriotism than to attend a "Patriots for Regime Change" party? Patriots for Regime Change has suggestions about what can be done to defeat Bush. We can learn, and also have a great time at the party. [This party isn’t a GVCP event. However, it’s hosted by GVCP member Hank Stone.] More info: 585-624-3673. EVERYONE INVITED! Bring a dish to pass.

WEEKLY SATURDAY MORNING VIGILS FOR PEACE! 10:30 - 11:30 AM in Honeoye, Richmond Memorial Park, Route 20A. (Not Honeoye Falls!) [Judi Taylor 585-229-4963 <jsalsburg@monroecc.edu>]

SAVE THE DATES: Friday, August 6th: GVCP’s Annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial at Avon Traffic Circle, Avon, NY. More details in the July GVCP newsletter.

November 19th - 21st: Annual demonstration against School of the Americas. Ft. Benning GA. Justice for the people of the Americas! Close the SOA! <www.soaw.org>

ACT NOW TO STOP TORTURE! All of us must hold elected U.S. officials accountable for acts of torture in Iraq and elsewhere. Senior government officials have violated U.S. and international laws and treaties, trampled on our Constitution, and shamed America in the eyes of the world. The U.S. government has perpetrated torture in acts documented by testimony and photographs. Torture inflicted in the name of the U.S. is clearly a matter of deliberate policy. This policy is wrong!

Public action should be focused on members of Congress to force full and immediate investigations. Remind your members of Congress that democracy and freedom are built on respect for US and international law. Torture is never acceptable.

Write to your Senators and Representative. Send a copy of your letter to a newspaper as a letter to the editor. A letter to the editor amplifies your voice.
