Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Learn more about "The Call to Bring the
Settlers Home to Israel" found at http://bringthemhome.btvshalom.org/.
The
Call is the creation of Brit Tzedek v Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for
Justice and Peace, a national group of Jewish-Americans committed to ending
the violence between Israelis and Palestinians. It is the centerpiece of a
campaign to tackle one of the toughest obstacles to Middle East peacethe
presence of over 200,000 Israeli settlers living throughout the West Bank
and the Gaza Strip.
U.S. companies supporting paramilitary terrorist groups in Colombia: U.S
companies operating in Colombia are currently providing material aid to a
designated foreign terrorist organizationthe United Self-Defense Forces
of
Colombia (AUC). For example, two Florida-based Coca-Cola bottlers, Richard
Kirby and Panamerican Beverages Company, LLC, as well as Drummond Company,
Inc., an Alabama coal company, provide the AUC with money, food, fuel,
equipment, as well as use of land for bases. In exchange, the AUC murders,
tortures, and intimidates trade union leaders to stop unions from operating
at these companies.
The Colombian government is in a close relationship with the AUC, and has
done little or nothing to bring these paramilitaries to justice. AUC, a
designated terrorist group, is openly operating in Colombia, and also has
open business relationships with U.S. companies.
Any company providing material assistance to the AUC is in violation of U.S.
law 18 U.S.C. § 2339B. Immediate enforcement action against these companies
would send a strong message that any person or company that assists any
terrorist group will be prosecuted.
Write to Attorney General John Ashcroft, US Department of Justice, 950
Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20530 Fax (202) 514-4507, e-mail:
<AskDOJ@usdoj.gov>. Ask Mr. Ashcroft to vigorously prosecute US companies
that break the law by supporting the AUC.
Send a copy of your letter to Senator Patrick Leahy, Senate Judiciary
Committee, Washington D.C. 20510. Fax (202) 224-3479, e-mail:
