NEXT GVCP ACTION: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4th, 1:00 – 2:00 PM GVCP’s Annual Demonstration against War Toys. Note new location: Corner of Ryan Drive and Veteran Drive, Geneseo. Wal-Mart is where the war toys are, so that’s where we’ll have our demonstration. The problem is that Wal-Mart has moved. Ryan Drive runs north off Lakeville Road (Route 20A), opposite Livingston Lanes. If you turn onto Ryan Drive from 20A, the first intersection is Veteran Drive, and that’s where we’ll demonstrate. (There’s a sidewalk at that spot.) The location of the parking area is hard to describe, but it will be obvious once you get there. Look for Santa Claus! Bring peaceful toys and DRESS WARMLY. (GVCP doesn’t encourage martyrdom, and that spot will be cold!)
NEXT GVCP MEETING: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4th, 2:15 PM, 40 Oak Street, Geneseo. (After the War Toys Demonstration.)
Save the Dates: Metro Justice Alternative Fair, Friday December 2nd 5:00 – 10:00 PM & Saturday December 3rd, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Unitarian Church, 220 S Winton, Rochester.
Rochester Area Action against the War in Iraq, March 18, 2006. March 18, 2006 will mark the third anniversary of the U.S. war against Iraq. We hope to bring together all antiwar groups in the area for a major regional demonstration against the war. Peace and justice groups across the U.S. are planning similar demonstrations.
WEEKLY SATURDAY MORNING VIGILS FOR PEACE: 10:30–11:30 AM in Honeoye, Richmond Memorial Park, Route 20A. (Not Honeoye Falls.) [Judi Taylor 585-229-4963 <jsalsburg@monroecc.edu>] Sponsored by Honeoye Concerned Citizens.
THIS MONTH’S LETTER: Iraq—Support the Woolsey Resolution (H. CON. RES. 35), The Immediate Iraq Withdrawal Bill. The Woolsey Resolution expresses the sense of Congress that the President should develop and implement a plan to begin the immediate withdrawal of United States Armed Forces from Iraq. Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) sponsored this resolution. Only 35 representatives have cosponsored. Four of these are from New York: Reps. Owens, Rangel, Serrano, and Hinchey. WRITE to your Representative (Washington, DC 20515) and ask why she/he hasn’t cosponsored this resolution. (From a pragmatic viewpoint, this resolution is not going to pass. I still think it’s important because it allows Representatives to stand up and be counted as opponents of the war in Iraq. The American people are against this war. Why won’t our elected representatives get a backbone and speak out?) Friends Committee on National Legislation has listed and analyzed six pieces of legislation that in some way oppose U.S. policy in Iraq. These can be found at:
