Attack Iraq? NO! George W. Bush¹s arrogant insistence that we have no choice but to attack Iraq is dominating peace and justice activity this month. As I write this newsletter, the UN Security Council is debating the issue, and busloads of peace activists are preparing to leave for a massive anti-war protest in Washington, DC this weekend. Often, the DC police respond to these large protests by arresting people who don¹t want to be arrestedthey are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes, the people they arrest are treated roughly. Occasionally, there is true police brutality. Keep on the lookout for emails from DCoften we need to respond promptly with large numbers of calls, emails, and faxes in cases of particularly oppressive and illegal police actions. Also, it¹s not too late to sponsor ³riderships² to Washington on buses from Rochester. Call Metro Justice at 585-325-2560 to arrange this. $50.00 will sponsor one rider. Mail to Metro Justice, 36 St. Paul St., Rm. 112, Rochester NY 14604.
More about Iraq: FAX ACTION AGAINST WAR ON IRAQ: Please send faxes to key UN
Security Council members, telling them that you oppose war against Iraq. Urge
them to use all means at their disposal to prevent the US from carrying out
this war. [When I tried this, all of these fax numbers were good ones, and went
right through.] In addition, please send a fax to Jimmy Carter congratulating
him on winning the Nobel Peace Prize, and calling on him to work against a war
on Iraq. Here are the fax numbers and sample letters:

Dear Sir or Madam:
I strongly urge you to vote NO to US or UN action against Iraq. The goal of
the United Nations should be to prevent war, not encourage war. Please do not
let President Bush lead the world into war. Thank you for considering my views.
Respectfully yours,

Hon. Jimmy Carter, Carter Center FAX 1-404-331-0283
Dear President Carter:
Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize. This great honor is well deserved.
I hope you will use the authority of your voice in opposition to the planned
war on Iraq. In my opinion, President Bush is initiating this war solely for
political and personal reasons. This war will be bad for Iraq, bad for the U.S.,
and bad for the world. Please oppose any attack on Iraq.
Respectfully yours,

For our British friends: President Bush is acting like a demonic Don Quixote,
and that is bad enough. Why is Tony Blair acting like his demonic Sancho Panza?
Please tell Blair that one leader in the English-speaking world who is a weasel
is horriblewe don¹t need two!
Peace,
