Peace Action NYS is looking for a student organizer on the Geneseo Campus

April 21, 2011

Dear Friend,
As you may know, SUNY Geneseo has about 5,500 students, and over 170 recognized student-led organizations, but not one peace and justice group.  Peace Action New York State, along with Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace, wants to change this situation by helping to establish a recognized student-led PANYS chapter on the Geneseo campus.

PANYS has received a grant earmarked for student organizing, and SUNY Geneseo is the Upstate location that we have chosen for this effort.

We are looking for an intelligent, dedicated student, committed to peace and justice, who is willing to work hard to establish a recognized student-led peace and justice organization on campus.  For practical reasons, the student should now be a sophomore or junior, so that she or he will be on campus for the 2011 – 2012 academic year.

This is not a paid position, but it carries with it a stipend of $500.00 to be paid at the end of the Fall 2011 semester.  If measurable progress towards the goal has occurred after the Fall 2011 semester, the position—and stipend—will continue for the Spring 2012 semester.  If the organizer succeeds in establishing a recognized Peace Action student-led chapter by May 2012, there will be an additional $500.00 bonus.

Please think of any students you consider appropriate for this position.  The student will need a strong commitment to peace and justice, as well as excellent organizing, leadership, and interpersonal skills.  Either notify the student that you’re going to suggest her/him for the position, or ask the student to get in touch with me directly.

Thanks for your help.

Peace,

Arnold Matlin for Peace Action New York State
