THIS MONTH’S LETTER: NO MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN! Unbelievable as it may seem, Pres. Bush appears to be seriously considering military action against Iran. What’s worse, Congress appears to be trotting along behind the President. As of today, 261 Representatives have cosponsored H.Con.Res. 362, which calls for war-like sanctions against Iran. All the Representatives listed below have cosponsored H.Con.Res. 362. Don’t be swayed by the argument, “It’s a non-binding resolution and it’s going nowhere.” If H.Con.Res. 362 is so meaningless, why co-sponsor it? Why not just ignore it?
Equally worrisome is S.R. 580, introduced by Sen. Bayh(!). This is a Senate resolution “expressing the sense of the Senate on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability.” The bad news is that 49 Senators have cosponsored S.R. 580. The good news is that Senators Biden, Clinton, McCain, Obama, and Schumer have not cosponsored.
Now is the time to tell Congress that you don’t want war with Iran! Keep your letter simple and direct—diplomacy, not war, with Iran.
