Dear GVCP Member,

As we have done for decades, GVCP asks you to renew your membership in January of the new year.  We don’t think of your membership check as a gift, but rather as a way of demonstrating your commitment to peace and to GVCP’s work to bring about peace.  Many people will also get a request by postal mail.  However, not everyone on the e-mail list is on the postal mail list.  If you don’t receive the dues request by postal mail, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to complete the form at the bottom of the newsletter, and send your check by postal mail to GVCP, PO Box 363, Geneseo, NY 14454.  Remember—GVCP doesn’t bombard you with special donation requests, urgent pleas, matching gift deadlines, and all the rest.  We just ask you to send us $40.00/year—more if possible, less if necessary—each January.

This Month’s Letters & Calls: Prosecute the Torturers!  Most GVCP members are horrified by the extraordinarily cruel and widespread use of torture by the CIA.  However, I don’t think the public outcry has been as intense as it should have been.  Maybe people are just worn down by so many bad policies being carried out by the U.S. in so many places, or maybe they take the attitude that torture is OK if we do it.  Here is a link to the White House petition asking the Obama Administration to prosecute the torturers:

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:  Prosecute, to the full extent of the law, all of the parties responsible for the use of torture outlined in CIA report.  Here’s the text of the petition:

Torture is a war crime.  There is no statute of limitations on war crimes.  Those that have committed this crime should be tried and punished to set us right with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  We need justice before there can be redemption.  The time is now to set our moral compass in the proper direction by holding those responsible for the horrific acts done in our country’s name.  There needs to be accountability - there needs to be justice - there needs to be a trial for war crimes now that we know just what was done in our name.

Remember that GVCP doesn’t ask for financial contributions during the year. Membership dues are our only source of income
