THIS MONTH’S LETTER: Stop the drone bombings! (Suggested by GVCP member Joyce Lehmann.) NYU Journalism Prof. Jay Rosen spoke to Bill Moyers about Pres. Obama’s Cairo speech. Rosen noted that that the President urged Israel and Palestine to find common ground, at the same time that the U.S. is continuing drone attacks against “terrorists” in Pakistan. (The drones are controlled like computer games by U.S. military in Nevada.)

The government of Pakistan constantly objects to this strategy as a violation of sovereignty. As we know, the drone attacks results in the deaths of many civilians. Prof. Rosen believes that President Obama is too much influenced by military advisors, and that he is essentially following the Bush Middle East policies.

WRITE to these committee chairs in Congress urging discontinuation of drone bombings and suggesting more diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. [Senate, Washington DC 20510; House of Representatives, Washington DC 20515.] Sen. John Kerry, Foreign Relations; Sen. Carl Levin, Armed Services; Rep. Howard Berman, Foreign Affairs; Rep. Ike Skelton, Armed Services. [Check web for e-mail and fax numbers.]

Also, please WRITE to Sec. Hillary R. Clinton, Dept. of State, 2201 C St NW, Wash, DC 20520. Fax 202-647-2283. Ask Clinton to support diplomatic efforts, not drone attacks.

Peace,

Arnie Matlin for GVCP
