WEEKLY SUNDAY NOON VIGILS FOR PEACE: 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM in Rochester. East Avenue & Goodman Street. [585-442-3383] Sponsor: Peace Action & Education.
This Month's Letters: Write to Congresswoman Hochul! GVCP members who live in the 26th Congressional District know that Democrat Kathy Hochul now represents them. Hochul's victory was amazing because the 26th CD was gerrymandered to make it "absolutely safe" for Republicans. We don't know Hochul's views about peace in Iraq or Afghanistan. This is the time to write to Rep. Hochul, telling her that you think the U.S. wars are destroying the nations we have attacked, as well as our own nation. She needs to hear from us NOW.
Rep. Kathy Hochul, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington DC 20515 Phone: 202-225-5265 Fax: 202-225-5910
Congressman Norm Dicks speaks out against the war! With surprising bluntness, the top House Democrat on defense and appropriations says that Pres. Barack Obama can't ignore the growing "war fatigue" in Congress and must consider steps to accelerate a U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan . . .
Dicks, an early and enthusiastic supporter of Obama's policy, told POLITICO that staying in Afghanistan into 2014, as first outlined by the president, will be difficult now, given the budget pressures at home and the erratic performance of the chief U.S. partners in the region. . . ."It's a serious problem. I just think that there's a war fatigue setting in up here, and I think the president is going to have to take that into account." . . . "I think the American people would overwhelmingly like to see this brought to a conclusion sooner than 2014." [From Paul K. Martin of Peace Action] <www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/56158.html>
Please write to Rep. Norm Dicks, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington DC 20515. Tell him he's right! [Note: people who use e-mail can go to the official website of representatives and click on "contact" to send the congressperson an e-mail.]
