working for peace and justice in the U.S. and throughout the world, and
we’re not going to stop now.

THIS MONTH’S LETTER: Stop more sanctions against Iran!

Both the House and Senate are considering new legislation to expand
sanctions against Iran. [H.R. 2194 & S.908 The Iran Refined Petroleum
Sanctions Act of 2009.] For 30 years our country’s Iran strategy has
focused on sanctions, threats, and isolation. These measures have imposed
severe pain on Iran and its people, but have accomplished nothing positive.
Despite this strategy’s past failures, some in Congress are again proposing
unilateral sanctions against Iran. Such legislation will be
counterproductive to President Obama’s diplomatic efforts. Furthermore,
this legislation also targets many of our country’s closest allies, calling
for severe punishments against some of their most vital industries. We
cannot solve our problems with Iran by ourselves; we need the cooperation
of our allies and the rest of the global community. Only through committed,
multilateral, sustained diplomacy can the conflicts with Iran be resolved.
