THIS IS A JOINT MEETING WITH PEACE ACTION GENESEO,
OUR SISTER GROUP ON THE SUNY CAMPUS.

This Month’s Letter:  Pentagon spending cuts must remain  on the table. As the lame-duck Congress stumbles through December,  some deficit reduction budget plan will probably be hammered out.   We need to tell our Senators and Congressional Representatives  that they should support a deficit reduction plan only if it includes significant reductions in Pentagon spending.
If the cuts are done strategically, there is plenty of room in the Pentagon budget to cut waste without hurting our national security.
Since 2002, Pentagon spending (excluding the wars and nuclear weapons)  has grown over 35%.  Domestic spending has grown by only 12%.   It is counterproductive to cut programs that provide crucial services  and that build a foundation for our future.  The Pentagon needs to pay its fair share.
Tell Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, and your Representative,  to take a strong stand against any deal that leaves Pentagon  spending off the table.  Ask them to share this position with  their party leaders who are negotiating the deal.   [Adapted from Peace Action West.]
Contact information:

Sen. Gillibrand: Tel (585) 263-6250 Fax (585) 263-6247

Sen. Schumer:  Tel (585) 263-5866 Fax (585) 263-3173

Both Senators have offices at the Federal Office Building,
100 State St., Rochester, NY 14614.
