Dear GVCP Member:

WEEKLY SUNDAY NOON VIGILS FOR PEACE:
12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM in Rochester. East Ave. & Goodman St.
585-442-3383]Sponsor: Peace Action & Education.

THIS MONTH’S LETTER or CALL: President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize. Based on what members have told me, GVCP members—like peace activists everywhere—have mixed feelings about President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Everyone agrees that the President doesn’t enjoy waging wars. (The consensus is the George W. Bush did enjoy wars, as long as he didn’t have to fight in them.) Still, most people have said that they’d like to see President Obama press forward on a host of peace issues that are important to us all.

Peace Action NYS has sent out a “wish list” for the President:

Rethink Afghanistan

Stop confusing defensive action against Al Qaeda with a "war"

De-militarize Iraq

Take much better care of our returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan

Keep talking to Iran

Get tougher on Israel

Make nuclear disarmament and abolition real.

Reduce military spending.

My suggestion is to pick one of these topics and write to or call the President:

Go to http://www.panys.org/alerts/229.htm then go to “Write President Obama”

Postal Address: The White House, Washington DC 20500

White House Fax 202-456-2461

President’s “Hotline” 202-456-1111 (Sometimes there’s a long wait)
